Ryders Birth Story

Ryder Lee Bell born on March 20th 2016 at 1:10 in the afternoon.

Our Ry guy decided he was ready to meet us on the very first day of spring, I don't blame him for wanting to avoid winter.

I woke up from contractions around 2 in the morning and decided to get in the bath at 3 to start timing them. After 45 minutes of soaking I woke Luke up and told him it was probably baby day but to go back to sleep until they were closer together.

One thing I learned from Landon's delivery was to put off going to the hospital as long as you can! Home is way more comfortable than a hospital and taking a 40 minute ride one way multiple times because they send you home is torture.

We got to the hospital a little after 7 in the morning and found out I was dilated to a 4. Which meant it was go time because I don't dilate past a 1 until I'm in labor.

We made our way from triage to our birthing room, stopping a few times for contractions and to throw up. We waited a little bit for an epidural and then had my water broken. Around 10:30 they checked me and I was about a 5. We settled in and I prepared myself for another long labor. With Landon I progressed about 1 cm per hour/ hour and a half.

They came back in to check me around 12:30 and to my surprise I was 9.5 cm dilated! Another 30 minutes of watching fixer upper and I was ready to start pushing. I pushed for all of 6 minutes and he was here.

He came into the world at 7 pounds 2 ounces and 20 inches long. He also came with a lot of facial bruising due to his quick delivery. Honestly because Landon's arrival was really scary, you can read his birth story here, I didn't even notice the bruising at first.

Luke did though. After he cut the cord he had to sit down for a few minutes to get over the appearance. It was nothing too concerning though, we had to monitor bilirubin levels extra close for the first few days but he never ended up having any jaundice.

Also just like his brother, he didn't cry right away which is always a little scary. But he had a much better apgar score than Landon. Other than the bruising he was absolutely perfect. His bruising was significantly decreased after 2 days and completely gone by the end of the first week.

Ry you're the perfect addition to our family and we are so in love with you already! I'll share how Landon's adjusting to his role as big brother soon.

xoxo.
