Pirate or Princess Gender Reveal Party

Over the summer I threw a gender reveal party for my sister. She already had two boys and this would be her last kid regardless of the gender. Knowing it was her last I convinced her to let me throw her a gender reveal party.
I can't do anything without a good theme but I didn't want to do the typical gender reveals that were all over Pinterest (mustache & lips, what will baby bee, etc). After too many hours of watching Disney Jr. with my nephews, thank you Sofia the First & Jake and the Neverland Pirates, I found the perfect theme: Pirate or Princess.
With a theme in place I wanted to come up with a unique idea for the actual reveal. I didn't want to do balloons, cutting a cake, or any other typical reveals. Well pirates (and maybe some princesses) have treasure hunts so I thought it was perfect! I also wanted it to be fun for both adults and kids since there would be guests varying in age from 50+ to 2 years old. At the end of the treasure hunt there would be a chest for the parents to open. I wanted all the guests to be involved though so I added a pirate vs. princess dual with colored silly string. The cans were covered in black and pink but all had the same color silly string inside which would reveal the gender.
The guests were asked to guess boy or girl - team pirate or princess - and wear black or pink accordingly. Teams were pretty evenly split which made it lots of fun. My sister Carly and I came up with a set of 8 unique clues (listed below) for each team which would have the two teams racing all over to get to the treasure first. The final clue was the same for each team. I think each team read the last clue within 10 seconds of each other.

One: Team pirate racing between clues
Two: Team princess
Three: Parents opening treasure box
Four: Silly string reveal
Five: Team princess reading a clue
Six: Team pirate

Princess Carlee & Carly

I had so much fun planning this for my sister but lets be honest - it would have been a lot of excitement and build up for another boy! I almost peed my pants with excitement (and relief) when I opened the envelope the night before the party! I don't think the parents-to-be actually believed it when they opened the chest.
Princess Myla (or Mymy as her brothers call her) is now here and definitely has everyone treating her like royalty.

*My sister (with the help of my two other sisters) is repaying the torture favor and throwing me my own gender reveal party tomorrow night. I'll be sure to get lots of pictures taken and do a post on that in the future! The theme is sports and its the middle of winter instead of summer - so it will have a totally different feel.
