Happy almost 2016! We have a low key night planned with some Chinese take-out, redbox movies, family fun board games, toasting with sparkling grape juice and getting Landon to give us lots of kisses as we practice the countdown. Sounds perfect to me, I might even throw in a bubble bath after the little one goes to bed.
This year I decided to do something a little different, I didn't make a traditional new years resolution. I'm not against them by any means but I just wanted to switch things up and try something different.
Last week I came across an article about the one word resolution and immediately knew it's what I wanted to do. The idea is simple, you choose one word to be your focus and inspiration for the year.
I took a few days to brainstorm, pray and just take time to choose the right word. I made a list every time a word came to me and slowly knocked them down to just three. I stared at those three words for another day but felt one weighing on my heart more than the other two.
My hesitation was that two of the words felt good, easy, light. And the other, the one I chose, felt like more of a challenge. Ultimately, I knew that was the very reason it should be my word.
Purpose
(v) To have as one's intention or objective.
Synonyms: intend, reason, plan, design.
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lords purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21
"When you realize God's purpose for your life isn't about you, He will use you in a mighty way." - Dr. Tony Evans
Maybe the word purpose doesn't scare some of you as much as it does me but again, that is why I think it is laying on my heart right now. I really feel like I need a little direction and self discovery this year. I think a persons purpose probably changes depending on the season of life they are in, evolving over time. But I feel that I'm not fully living out mine or maybe I'm on the wrong path all together. I'm really letting my heart and life be open to whatever direction God wants to lead me.
So there it is, my one word resolution, PURPOSE. I would love to hear what word you would or are choosing? Oh and my two runner up words were gratitude and nurture.
