Must Haves: 0-3 Months

Now that Landon is almost 5 months old, I finally got around to writing my must haves for a 0-3 month old baby. I left off some obvious items like a good car seat, stroller, crib and safety items. Also I listed a few considerations at the bottom. I'm no expert and all babies are different but here are our must haves that have been lifesavers for us.

Must Haves:

….Solly Wrap
We all know I love my Solly Wrap and so do most new mamas, especially those with colicky or high demanding babies. Wearing Landon in my wrap was so special and memorable for me. I feel like we were really able to bond even though breastfeeding didn't work out for us. Bonus we did lots of walking during evening colicky hours. Bonus bonus its a good way to keep well meaning people from touching your new baby.

….Swaddle Blankets or SleepSack Swaddle
Like the wrap, swaddle blankets really help babies calm down. They like being all tight and squished. However after a few weeks Landon started busting out of the swaddle so we went to the swaddle sleep sack which he couldn't loosen. These little sacks also help keep babies warm without having to put loose blankets on them.

….Rock n Play
The rock n play is an alternative to a bassinet. It takes up hardly any place at all, is very mobile, and perfect for the first month (or two) for baby to sleep in. We put ours right by our bed and were able to scoop him up (and check to make sure he was still breathing) very fast and easily at night.

….Boon Grass Drying Rack + Accessories
It doesn't matter if you're breastfeeding, pumping or bottle feeding, there are lots of pieces and parts to wash all day long. There are several different versions but we especially loved the boon grass and accessories. Its cute and functional. Tip: get the boon grass not the boon lawn.

….Medela Pump
We had a breastfeeding fail so a good pump was critical in keeping my supply up and ensuring Landon got breast milk. I've tried a few different pumps and the Medela electronic double pump is by far the best! Its worth the price tag. Also stock up on spare parts, cleaning wipes, breast pads, etc. An easy pumping experience will help you keep going.

….Baby Monitor
I was gifted this by my sisters and mom and couldn't be more thankful. Coming from the mom whose baby is sleeping in his crib in our bedroom… I still use it everyday! Whether is during nap time and I'm somewhere else in the house or during the night and I hear him stirring but don't want to walk across the room (yes I'm that lazy and you will be too) to see if he is actually awake or sleep fussing.

….Boppy
The boppy is a really versatile baby product for being so simple. Its most used in the first 6 months. We used it for nursing, propping baby in, tummy time, and now at 5 months we are starting to use it as he learns to sit up.

….Diaper Pail
Seriously invest in this. Babies poop all day every day and nobody wants to smell that. We have the dekor baby pail in gray and have nothing but good things to say about it. We just about die when we have to empty it and I couldn't imagine having those smells around all the time.

Wait till baby comes items:

….Bouncer, Swing, Electronic Movement Devices
These items are usually more expensive and it would really suck to plop down that money on a baby would rather be in a wrap or hang out in the rock n play. Babies are picky and have preferences that you don't know about till they are here. Unless you get these as gifts wait and then buy them when you know they like them.

….Too many bottles

My sister had to get all new bottles for her third child because she didn't like the nipple on the style bottle that both her boys previously had no problem with. Also if you end up having a baby who is colicky, a lip tie, sucking issues, etc specific bottles and nipples may be recommend by your doctor.

Things to consider:

Your home….
Do you have stairs? Will baby be sleeping on the same floor or in the same room as you? Do you only have a stand-up shower? Baby proofing is a whole other topic but be mindful for your surrounding.

Your friends and family….
Try to see what you can borrow or buy from them. A bouncer that is two years old is just as good as a brand new one. Especially considering they only use it for a few months.

Your lifestyle….
Do you go camping all summer long, do you have a dog, is your husband an avid runner. All things to consider when bringing a baby into the world. There are lots of products that can help compliment your hobbies and lifestyle.
