Nursery Projects

I can't believe I have only a month left! I was a bit of a procrastinator the first two trimesters but I've really got my shit together the last couple of weeks! I knew all of our weekends would be booked after memorial weekend up until baby boys due date so I've been busy getting projects done. Here are a few things I've been working on - I'll show the actual nursery soon!

Projects:

Changing Table & Crib

My lovely Aunt Julia gave Luke & I our crib and changing table - we are forever grateful! We just put on a fresh coat of white paint & updated the hardware. Its the perfect size! I don't have any pictures of the crib because I still need to assemble it.

The dresser when we received it:

After new hardware & a coat of white paint :

Baby Block Name Hook

I was (p)inspired by THIS - but couldn't rationalize spending $80 on it when I had most of the supplies and the rest would only cost a few bucks at the hardware store - so I of course made a DIY version! I love how it turned out and it was really easy.

Supplies:

Finished:

Wooden Rocker

I've had my eye on a really expensive glider & ottoman but there are about a million other things I would spend $600 on so I went with a wooden family rocker instead. I actually really love this rocker because it was built by my great grandpa Vliek & I love mushy stuff like that! The only "project" for this was breathing some life back into the wood because it was super dry. Other than that I didn't want to change a thing.

Wooden rocker before:

1/2 cup vinegar & 1/2 cup olive oil solution applied on half:

School Desk Makeover

This isn't actually going in the nursery, its going to my nephew RJ but I worked on it at the same time as the rest of these projects so I thought I would add it. My mom got this desk bundled with a few other items at an auction last fall for $15 (I think). We already had the paint & wood for the new top so there were zero additional costs.

The desk started like this:

Took the top off, applied wood filler, sanded & applied wood glue where needed:

Three or four coats of paint later:

Now just waiting for a new top to be cut & coated in black chalkboard paint & it will be done!
The top is being cut by my brother-in-law Brian - best of luck on that project!
Once finished it should look similar to THIS.

Oh & of course there is a matching side table for little brother Parker!

I'm all project-ed out... except I did spy an old wooden toy box in my parents basement that could be fun to spiffy up! But I'll at least take the rest of the weekend off.
The rest of my nursery to do list is along the lines of:

Putting furniture together
Hanging pictures, shelves, art
Washing sheets & blankets
Adding the "pretties"

& then I will post nursery pictures!
